5 Tips for Eating Vegan at Walt Disney World

As traveling herbivores, our family is constantly on the prowl for the most delicious vegan eats available to us. Lucky for us, Walt Disney World is a dream destination for people who are plant-based. The challenge is never where or what we are going to eat, but how we are going to fit in everything we want to try!

Here are five tips for finding and eating great vegan food at Walt Disney World.

5 Tips for Eating Vegan at Walt Disney World

Look for the Leaf

Before departing for vacation, spend time exploring the menus in the My Disney Experience app or on each dining location’s website. Look for the Plant-Based section of the menu for items that can be ordered as-is. Once you’re in the parks, the posted menu signs indicate plant-based items with a green leaf.

Speak to a Cast Member

Sometimes other menu items can be customized to be plant-based, but this requires speaking to a cast member when ordering. Don’t be afraid to inquire – the cast members are very happy to assist and help guide you with the menu. Other reasons to speak to a cast member when ordering? To look at the allergy binder for ingredient lists or to ask about shared fryers. Further, chefs at table service restaurants can assist with ordering potential off-menu options or directing you to vegan options on buffets.

Prepare Yourself for Menu Changes

Walt Disney World changes menu items fairly regularly, so try not to be too disappointed if an anticipated menu item disappears, only to be replaced by something less enticing to you. (The vegan community is still mourning the loss of the beloved slaw dog from Casey’s Corner in Magic Kingdom!)

Hit the Epcot Festivals

It’s often festival season at Epcot, so look at the calendar to see if your travel plans align with one of these events: Festival of the Arts, Flower & Garden Festival, Food & Wine Festival, and Festival of the Holidays. Flower & Garden Festival particularly shines for vegans, as The Garden Graze food stroll focuses on plant-based options. While Epcot has many delicious vegan options throughout the year, the extra booths for The Flower & Garden Festival in particular make dining decisions even more challenging!

Pack Your Patient Pants

For allergy or special orders, mobile ordering through the app won’t be an option. Sometimes, especially during peak seasons and busy mealtimes, you might need to wait a bit for your food. Be patient while cast members prepare your meal.

Disney Vacations are truly a dream for plant-based travelers. From the parks to the cruise ships, Disney has many offerings and is incredibly accommodating, which makes food something we not only don’t have to worry about but something we can truly get excited for.
