When we began planning and budgeting for our spring 2024 Walt Disney World vacation, we knew grocery delivery would be a necessity. We weren’t on the dining plan this trip, weren’t buying resort refillable mugs, and needed some simple foods to pack for our daughter’s days in the parks. Further, between being carry-on-only travelers and needing plenty of beverages and sunscreen for a near-record temperature week in Lake Buena Vista, it wasn’t a matter of “if” but “from where.”
Many options for grocery delivery are available to guests on WDW resort property. Walmart, Publix, Kroger, Garden Grocer, Whole Foods, Amazon Prime, Dizzy Dolphin Delivery, and Vacation Grocery Delivery are just a few places willing to make the trek to your resort and bring you what you need. There isn’t a “best” option – it’s what works for you, the services you might already pay for at home (don’t forget to change your delivery address back and forth!), and which stores have the items you need.
We were between Kroger and Publix for our needs. Ultimately (primarily because we wanted to order vegan subs for our arrival) we decided to purchase our groceries from Publix, which uses the Instacart service through the Publix app. Upon signing up, we received a promotion for free delivery and later, for our second delivery, applied a promo code for money off too.
Because we were only traveling with carry-on luggage, we purchased a few items in addition to the food and beverages we wanted for our seven night stay: pump soap for the bathroom (no one in our family likes bar soap at the sink!), a hand sanitizer pump to refill the travel-sized bottles in our Disney park bags, and two large bottles of sunscreen.
Other items we purchased through Publix? Coffee creamer, small bottles of Coke to take into the parks as a treat with meals, a two liter of soda for our room, a large case of bottled water, snack bars, strawberries, blueberries, bread, peanut butter, strawberry jam, and juice boxes. (The last few items on this list were for packing meals to take into the park for our daughter.) In our luggage we packed some snacks and Gatorade-type individual drink pouches to add to our water.
For our arrival day, we ordered a bag of chips, Meatless Turkey Club Subs, and vegan chocolate chip cookies from the Publix bakery. (This is really what drove us to order from Publix – the subs there are incredible, and with our flight times we wanted to eat right upon our arrival at 3pm.) We loved our sandwiches so much, we placed a second order later in the week for a dinner, and added more hand soap and juice boxes to that delivery as well.
In the Publix app, it’s easy to choose your items, pay, and leave instructions for your shopper. I like to include a reminder note with the name on the resort reservation, resort name, and the instructions to leave the order with Bell Services. When your order arrives at the resort, you can either fetch it yourself (Bell Services will not lend out the rolling luggage racks) or pay $6 to have it delivered to your room.
Regardless of which service you use, to find your resort address, go into your My Disney Experience app, tap on the three line/hamburger menu on the bottom right of the screen, tap on resort hotel, and scroll to the bottom to view the address. Press and hold to copy and then paste it into your shopping app.
Even with the Instacart upcharge, service fee, and tip, the peace of mind and convenience of having these items delivered to our resort was well worth it, and it’s something I would absolutely budget for on all future vacations.
